Online ‘rate your GP’ service launched

14th October 2009

The NHS has unveiled a new online service that allows Britons to voice their opinions on the level of service they receive from their GPs.

Following the decision to eradicate geographical restrictions on which GP people choose, the NHS Choices website will give those searching for new doctors the chance to view the comments of others before making a decision.

Both positive and negative comments can be posted on the site regarding issues such as accessing surgeries via telephone, making appointments and whether individuals were treated with a suitable level of respect.

Health minister Mike O’Brien commented: “This new tool allows every single GP practice in the country to see the patient’s view on what they are doing well and what needs to be improved.”

Meanwhile, carers in the UK are being let down by the NHS, according to the charitable foundations the Princess Royal Care Trust and Crossroads Care.
