Organ donation campaign attracts 17,000 responses

30th May 2018

The comms team at the Department for Health and Social Care launched a campaign following the proposal announced last December, where unless people have specifically made it clear that they do not want to donate their organs it will be assumed that they have consented for this to happen.
With only 36% of people actually registering to become an organ donor, the campaign was set up to get people talking about organ donation and to give them the opportunity to be able to provide their views on the subject, and opt out if they wish to.
The campaign generated more than 17,000 responses, where the Department of Health and Social Care director of comms commented on the campaign. “Our aim was to support the development of the new policy through a public consultation. This campaign will help to ensure any changes in the law aptly reflect the views of modern society and will contribute to saving lives of the people in need of an organ transplant.”
