Orthofix to launch new VersaShield wound covering

Orthofix has announced the introduction of VersaShield, a new amniotic membrane for wound dressing developed alongside the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF).

The naturally physiologic wound covering can be used in both spinal and orthopaedic applications, with its amniotic allograft tissue form processed from placental tissue recovered from living donors by MTF.

It can be stored at room temperature and offers easy handling characteristics, with Orthofix's spine and orthopaedic distribution networks responsible for commercialisation.

This is one of a number of collaborative projects between Orthofix and MTF, with the organisations set to join forces again next year to launch Trinity Elite, the successor to Orthofix's Trinity Evolution offering.

Orthofix president and chief executive officer Robert Vaters said: "This launch further demonstrates our commitment to expand our biologic offering, which goes hand in hand with our value proposition of providing surgeons a breadth of hardware, biologic and stimulation solutions."

This week, the company also announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2012, during which its net sales total experienced year-on-year growth of one percent on a constant currency basis.
