Otsuka and Lundbeck to present brexpiprazole data at EPA 2014

Otsuka and Lundbeck have announced plans to share the latest clinical findings on their new drug brexpiprazole at the forthcoming 2014 European Psychiatry Association (EPA) congress.

Data will be presented from a completed phase III, randomised, placebo-controlled study investigating the effect of brexpiprazole as an adjunctive therapy to antidepressant therapy in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Findings from this trial revealed that brexpiprazole has shown efficacy and was well tolerated among MDD patients who have experienced an inadequate response to antidepressant treatment.

The manufacturers are also conducting three additional studies in depression and schizophrenia that will conclude in the first half of 2014. Phase III clinical trials are underway among patients with agitation associated with Alzheimer's disease.

This comes after Otsuka and Lundbeck announced last month that they will be expanding their established collaborative agreement to include the development of an investigational vaccine candidate for Alzheimer's, with phase I trials expected to commence this year.
