Oxford Instruments founder awarded

Oxford Instruments’ founder has been has received an industry award for his services to the sector.

Sir Martin Wood won the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Max Swerdlow Award for sustained service to the applied superconductivity community.

The accolade was established to recognise sustained contributions to the industry, which has had a lasting influence on the sector’s technological advancement.

Sir Martin was recognised for his innovative and bold approach to commercialising superconducting magnets and systems and other types of scientific instrumentation by founding Oxford Instruments.

"Oxford Instruments continues this spirit of innovation today. It has grown into a worldwide business supplying high technology tools and systems into diverse markets which include research, industrial analysis, space, energy and the life sciences," a company statement said.

Mr Wood will receive his award at an award ceremony at the Applied Superconductivy Conference in Chicago, on August 18th.

The firm recently added InteRNA Genomics BV and Biotique Systems to its software development community.
