Oxoid Awards ‘to recognise scientific work in food industry’
The Oxoid Awards are now open for entry and aim to recognise the work of science professionals in the food industry.
All those involved in product safety, quality and hygiene in the food and beverage production are eligible for entry.
The prizes will be split into two categories ? one for young microbiologist of the year and one for Oxoid food safety team of the year.
Nicola Wilson, general manager of Westward Laboratories and which won the Oxoid laboratory of the year award in 2004-05, says the honour recognises the achievement and effort that goes into effective organisation.
"It’s great to have such recognition within the food industry for those of us who work on the microbiology side. I would certainly encourage people to enter," she said.
Applications for entry must be received by June 30th 2007, with winners awarded prizes at a ceremony later in the year.
Earlier in the month, Oxoid launches a new product range to determine minimum inhibitory concentration values, which could provide important information in the treatment of patients with critical illnesses.
