Oxoid crowns infection teams

Oxoid has crowned the winners of its 2007/2008 Infection Control Team of the Year.

Clinching first place was the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust that received the accolade from Judy Potter, chair of the Infection Prevention Society and director of the department of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

The winning team received a cheque for £5,000 and a £1,000 second prize was awarded to East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust.

Doctor Nizam Damani, consultant microbiologist and infection control, lead for Craigavon Area Hospital, presented Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with a framed certificate and a cheque for £500 in recognition of their third-place win.

Ali Ball, vice-president of marketing and new product development at Oxoid, said the firm is delighted to publicly recognise the sector’s important work.

"The fight against healthcare-associated infections can only be won through the dedication of infection control teams consisting of microbiologists, infection control doctors and nurses, and laboratory staff," he added.

Meanwhile, the organisation recently teamed up with Remel to introduce a complete portfolio of culture media for the microbiological examination of non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
