PerkinElmer launches assay development service

PerkinElmer has launched an assay development service, the company announced this week.

The service is targeted at g-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) and kinase cell-based screening, according to the firm.

PerkinElmer advises: "GPCR and protein kinases actively signal and regulate several important functions within cells, presenting a wide range of therapeutic targets."

Meanwhile, laboratories based on existing Elisa technology are to be assisted in upgrading to the new AlphaLisa standard, the firm claims.

Richard Eglen, vice-president and general manager of discovery and research reagents at PerkinElmer, says: "Our assay development service can fast-track development of application-specific assays for pharmaceutical and research customers."

In this way, he suggests, the time spent setting up experiments can be minimised, reducing associated costs.

PerkinElmer recently revealed it has now identified over 100,000 babies considered to be at high risk of suffering from a number of genetic diseases over a period of 20 years.
