PerkinElmer launches new Solaris optical imaging system

PerkinElmer has announced the launch of a new quantitative optical molecular imaging system, a preclinical solution for small and large animal studies.

The Solaris system can be combined with the company's existing suite of fluorescence molecular imaging probes to bridge molecular imaging research techniques to support potential clinical outcomes.

It helps researchers to distinguish between healthy and diseased tissue in real time, allowing scientists to more accurately and completely map tumours to advance drug discovery and translational research projects, as well as developing and validating molecular-guided surgical research protocols.

The device is designed for ambient lighting conditions found in preclinical surgical research suites and can dynamically use a broad and versatile range of fluorescent probes.

Brian Kim, president for life sciences and technology at PerkinElmer, said: "Translational drug discovery validation in large animal models enhances toxicity and efficacy predictability in humans and provides critical knowledge for drug development programmes."
