Petplan: Better treatments driving rise in pet insurance uptake

16th September 2011

Petplan has attributed the growing uptake of pet insurance policies in the UK to improvements to the quality of animal health procedures.

Isabella von Mesterhazy, head of marketing at the animal insurance brand, suggested that better diagnostics and advances in technology in recent years have been accompanied by a growth in the cost of treatment.

As such, pet owners are becoming more likely to take out cover on their domestic animals' health, leading to more insurance products being made available on the market.

This comes after Petplan introduced a revamped range of animal health insurance policies earlier this year, with the aim of simplifying the range of options it offers to consumers.

Ms von Mesterhazy noted that the array of policies available is perceived as confusing, while noting that many clients are conferring with animal health experts before choosing.

"The UK in fact has the most pets insured in the world, which really highlights that we truly are a nation of pet lovers," she said.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800731764-ADNFCR
