Pfizer announces donation for lab equipment

Life science companies could benefit from a donation of laboratory equipment from Pfizer, it has emerged.

The equipment – which includes glassware, research items and other supplies – will mostly come from the company’s facilities in Ann Arbour, Michigan, which are set to close later this year.

It will be distributed to a number of life science research firms, including four local universities.

In addition, secondary schools and community colleges in the region will benefit from the donation of general laboratory supplies to support their science programmes.

“Pfizer is making this donation to help nurture science education, drive economic growth and promote new medical breakthroughs,” said David Canter, senior vice-president for global research and development at the firm.

Pfizer has operations in more than 150 countries and employs around 6,900 staff in the UK alone.

The firm donated around £6 million to charities and local institutions in the UK in 2003.
