Pfizer announces sustainable healthcare partnership

Pfizer and Grameen Health have announced a new partnership to explore sustainable healthcare delivery models for use in the developing world.

Together with the Grameen Bank affiliate, Pfizer will work to identify business models to help address the need of around four billion people across the world who live on annual incomes of less than $3,000 (1,615 pounds).

Existing healthcare delivery systems and primary care clinics in rural Bangladesh from Grameen Health will be jointly evaluated by both partners, with an appropriate model identified after one year for replication in other countries.

Pfizer said it would dedicate a number of its important employees to provide advisory and technical support for this collaboration.

Jean-Michel Halfon, area president of Canada, Latin America, Africa, and Middle East pharmaceutical operations at Pfizer, said: “We believe Grameen’s demonstrated success in providing innovative financial solutions for the poor, coupled with Pfizer’s healthcare experience, human capital and extensive portfolio of medicines, have the potential to improve the lives of millions of patients.”

He added the partnership is the first of many in support of the company’s wider global access strategy.

Earlier this week. Pfizer said it had been named to the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index for the second successive year.
