Pfizer names new vaccines, oncology and consumer healthcare head

18th December 2013

Pfizer has confirmed the appointment of Albert Bourla as its new group president for vaccines, oncology and consumer healthcare, effective as of January 1st 2014.

Mr Bourla – who has been with the company for 20 years and occupied senior global positions spanning various markets and disciplines – has been selected for this role instead of Amy Schulman, who was due to take over the post, but has now announced her departure from Pfizer.

Ian Read, Pfizer's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "He has a track record for delivering solid business results and most recently has been responsible for building a strong post-patent business."

Ms Schulman is also stepping down as general counsel and leaving Pfizer's executive leadership team, before departing the company after a transition period. Chief compliance and risk officer Doug Lankler takes over as general counsel with immediate effect, while Rady Johnson moves into Mr Lankler's vacated role.

Meanwhile, Susan Silbermann has been named president and general manager for the global vaccines business.

These changes come as part of wider restructuring plans that will see Pfizer separate internally into three new business segments, in order to strengthen its commercial capabilities.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801673846-ADNFCR
