Pfizer recognised as climate change leadership

Pfizer has announced that it has been named to the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index for the second year in a row.

The firm has been recognised as a leader in improving climate change by the not-for-profit Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

A coalition of 385 global investors, the CDP has $57 trillion (30.7 trillion pounds) in assets under management.

Pfizer said it was one of 383 Fortune 500 companies – and one of only nine in the pharmaceutical and chemical sector – to be named in the index.

The company said its goal of enhancing world health cannot be attained by products alone but also requires programmes to deliver sustainable solutions in a changing world.

Paul Dickinson, chief executive of the CDP, said: “Pfizer is a leader among its peers through its voluntary reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and commitment to renewable energy.”

He added that good corporate governance with regards to climate change will reap is rewards, with these firms better placed to deal with increased carbon prices than those firms who have not taken such forward-thinking steps.

In May 2008, Pfizer announced the appointment of Amy W Schulman as senior vice-president and general counsel for the company, taking up her position on June 23rd.
