Pfizer study highlights benefits of Toviaz for overactive bladder
Pfizer has published data from a new study that demonstrates the potential benefits of Toviaz, its therapy for the symptoms of overactive bladder.
Top-line results have been announced from Study A0221048, a trial that assessed the effectiveness and safety of a flexible-dose Toviaz regimen for patients affected by symptoms such as nocturnal urinary urgency.
Analysis shows that Pfizer's drug was superior to placebo in reducing the average number of urinary urgency episodes overnight during sleep hours after 12 weeks of treatment, thus meeting its primary efficacy endpoint.
The trial involved a total of 937 patients based at 108 sites across the US, with no significant safety concerns arising from the study.
Dr Steven Romano, senior vice-president and head of the medicines development group for Pfizer's global primary care business unit, said: "Many patients with overactive bladder experience frequent interruptions during sleep hours from urinary urgency, which can be very disruptive and bothersome."
Earlier this month, the company also published positive data from a clinical trial of Enbrel, a therapy for rheumatoid arthritis developed alongside Amgen.
