Pfizer to make infectious diseases portfolio update

Pfizer has announced that it is to present new data relating to its research and development pipeline field of infectious diseases at today’s annual meeting of the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in Chicago.

At the conference, the firm will present over 50 abstracts addressing a range of bacterial, fungal and viral diseases.

Furthermore, the firm will also host an investor meeting that will be webcast from the city to appraise the updates to its product portfolio and pipeline for stakeholders.

Dr Mike Dunne, vice-president of infectious disease global research and development, said: “As we move into the future, our scientists will focus even more on prevention and leverage the work of other therapeutic areas, not just to treat the infections themselves, but the consequences of those infections as well.”

He added that the firm has a long tradition in the development and marketing of novel compounds to tackle infectious diseases, citing the recent US Food and Drug Administration approval of its HIV drug Selzentry.

Earlier this month, Pfizer announced the launch of the Mobilise against Malaria initiative, a programme with the aim of eradicating the disease through education and treatment programmes in countries including Kenya, Ghana and Senegal.
