Pharmacies Pay Tribute to Queens’ Passing

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has commented on the passing of our beloved Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, expressing that “It is with great regret that we learnt of the death of our patron. Her Majesty gave 70 years of public service to this country. She was the much-valued patron of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and her death will be deeply felt by pharmacists and the whole pharmacy family”.

On the back of King George VI’s passing back in 1952, the Queen took over her fathers’ role of RPS patron.

The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was inducted as the Society’s first honorary Fellow in 1955. 33 years later, Queen Elizabeth granted the “Royal” designation to the “Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain”.

Head of the National Pharmacy Association, Andrew Lane, articulated that “She was truly a towering figure in our nation and around the world. We pay tribute to King Charles III, who recently welcomed hundreds of pharmacists into Clarence House to recognise the NPA’s centenary and work of our members.”

A flurry of other pharmaceutical bodies also extended their condolences, including: The General Pharmaceutical Council, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC), and Community Pharmacy Scotland/ Wales among others.

Pharmaceutical Officer for England, David Webb, Chief, commented that he is “incredibly saddened by the loss of our Queen who gave unique, enduring, exemplary service [and] leadership to our country. This period of national mourning will be a time to honour her immense contribution.”
