Pharmacy Courses See a 20% Rise in Admissions
In 2021, 4,400 MPharm positions were available. In 2021, there were almost 22,000 requests to join pharmacy programmes, which is almost 20% more than those made in 2020.
Admissions have climbed by over 10% for the third consecutive year.
According to a representative for UCAS, the “vast majority” of new starters came from those commencing their first year of study, however there was a “very tiny number” of individuals who transferred from other courses. The findings come on the back of claims regarding a lack of employees in the pharmaceutical industry as a whole.
After data revealed that there was “a nationwide shortage in this sector due to a drop in the number of pharmacy graduates and increased demand for their services,” pharmacists were put onto the Home Office’s shortage occupation list in springtime of this year.
