Philips and AMREF announce African healthcare alliance

Philips is to collaborate with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) on a new partnership to improve access to high-quality healthcare in Africa.

The collaboration involves an innovative shared-value partnership model designed to bring about a structural improvement in the healthcare infrastructure and provision of care on the African continent.

It will help AMREF to achieve its social goals and aid Philips' ambition of improving the lives of people in Africa, allowing the organisations to connect their networks and bring new education and training programmes to market. 

Both parties will work with local stakeholders to develop and implement large-scale projects to improve healthcare infrastructure and make healthcare more accessible to the local population in a fast-evolving market.

Roelof Assies, general manager of Philips East Africa, said: "To provide innovative solutions that can deal with the complexity of healthcare in Africa, Philips is taking a long-term approach aimed at close collaboration with local and international parties that have strong engagement in the issues."

Last month, the company announced the launch of a new global healthcare informatics solutions and services unit within its Philips Healthcare division, offering customised clinical programmes, advanced data analytics and interoperable cloud-based platforms to hospitals and health systems.
