Philips announces introduction of ProtocolWatch

Philips Medical Systems has announced the launch of its ProtocolWatch application for the company’s IntelliVue patient monitors. The product applies patient monitoring data to evidence-based care protocols.

From evidence-based care guidelines, the application offers physicians screening and treatment information and delivers care protocols on a patient monitor screen that are customer-specific to enhance the standard of care.

On release, the product will incorporate the care guidelines from the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) into monitoring, with patients’ vital signs screened for the disease, with clinicians prompted to check for other clinical signs of sepsis with a ProtocolWatch window.

In the event of diagnosis of severe sepsis by a clinician, the application launches a resuscitation bundle with a recommended checklist from the SSC Sepsis Protocol, followed by further recommendations from the SSC Sepsis Management Bundle.

David Russell, vice president for marketing at Philips Medical Systems, commented that existing medical technology can produce countless numbers of data points for assessment.

“At Philips we’re designing clinical decision support systems to provide clinicians a clearer picture of what’s happening with a patient, turning data into clear, pertinent information and even providing guidance through clinical protocols.”
