Philips increases value of green revenues to 60 percent of total sales
Philips has published a new report demonstrating its success in increasing the percentage of its sales generated through sustainable channels.
Green revenues now account for 60 percent of the company's total sales and have been valued at EUR 10.7 billion (GBP 9.56 billion). This has been achieved through greater investment in energy efficiency, green packaging and reduction of hazardous substances, among other measures.
As part of a five-year sustainability programme, Philips has committed to becoming carbon-neutral in its operations by 2020, with green revenues to account for 70 percent of sales, while 15 percent of revenues will be generated through circular economy-driven propositions.
These efforts led to the firm recently being named as an industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the third consecutive year.
Frans van Houten, chief executive officer of Philips, said: "I am proud that we are addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges by contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, while respecting natural resource limitations and taking a circular economy approach."
