Philips signs new agreement with Aerogen
Philips has announced a new commercial agreement with Aerogen that will strengthen its home healthcare solutions business.
The arrangement includes a technology licence deal and the acquisition of selected assets solely related to Aerogen's homecare business. By gaining access to Aerogen's innovations, Philips will be able to expand its range of home-care nebulisers.
Both firms will work together to ensure a seamless transition of Aerogen's homecare nebuliser product range and customer base to Philips. The products will be used in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Aerogen is a privately-owned respiratory drug delivery company headquartered in Galway, Ireland. Its acute-care and home ventilator drug delivery business will be unaffected by this deal.
Brent Shafer, chief executive officer for home healthcare solutions at Philips Healthcare, said: "Inhalation therapy plays a key role in treating chronic respiratory problems and I believe that with Aerogen's technology, we are further expanding on our promise to improve people's lives through meaningful innovation."
Last month, the company highlighted a new study that demonstrated the improvements in patient outcomes and reduction in healthcare costs associated with the use of its remote Intensive Care Unit programme.
