Procter and Gamble and Unicef highlight progress of anti-tetanus initiative

18th June 2014

Procter and Gamble and Unicef have celebrated the progress they have made in combating maternal and newborn tetanus through their long-term partnership in this area.

The company's Pampers brand has been working with Unicef and Interbrand for almost a decade to provide almost 300 million doses of the tetanus vaccine to millions of women and their newborns.

Matthew Price, vice-president of baby care at Procter and Gamble, said: "Pampers funding has already helped to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus in 14 countries by the simple but impactful 'one pack = one vaccine' mechanic."

The success of the partnership has been attributed to the strong strategic fit between the mission, vision and brand equity of both partner organisations during a celebratory event at Unicef House.

However, the condition still threatens 100 million women and newborn babies in 25 countries worldwide, so further work is still required.

This comes after Procter and Gamble further underlined its corporate social responsibility commitment earlier this year by pledging to achieve zero deforestation in its palm oil supply chain by 2020.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801729291-ADNFCR
