Procter and Gamble announces availability of Align supplement

10th July 2007

Procter & Gamble has announced the availability to pharmacists of its Align daily probiotic supplement.

The supplement aims to help individuals build up and maintain a continuing defence against a range of digestive complaints, including abdominal discomfort, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and gas.

Align contains Bigantis (Bifidobacterium infantis 35624) a specific strain of a bacterium clinically proven to help the building and maintenance of a robust digestive system.

Procter & Gamble claims that no other available probiotic strain is supported by the strength of clinical trial data as that existing for Bifantis.

The supplement will now be made available to consumers in the US via their pharmacist, who can order the product in packets of 28 capsules from wholesalers including Amerisource Bergen, Cardinal and McKesson.

Mauricio Troncoso, Marketing Director for Align, said: “Align was developed to help people with a wide-range of episodic digestive upsets.”

“We are thrilled that Align will now be more widely available to consumers.”

In May 2007, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, a Procter & Gamble company, presented its business model in Boston at the international convention of the Biotechnology Industry Organisation.

At the conference, the company gave details of its innovative methods for forming valuable alliances with other enterprises through its “connect and develop” model.
