Procter and Gamble-backed project aids recycling of used nappies
Procter and Gamble has helped to launch a new technological solution to aid the upcycling of used nappies.
Fater – a joint venture of Procter and Gamble and Gruppo Angelini – have developed enhanced recycling technology to make it possible to upcycle used nappies into secondary raw materials such as plastics, cellulose and absorbing material.
This project has been backed by the EMBRACED Consortium, an EU-funded group of 13 partners that promote the recycling of absorbent hygiene products and their transformation into higher-value materials such as fertilisers and bioplastics.
The upgraded technology will be implemented at Fater's plant in Treviso, with support from its partner Contarina, and will align with Procter and Gamble's broader corporate efforts to enhance sustainability and reduce its ecological footprint.
Roberto Marinucci, Procter and Gamble's vice-president for global baby care, wipes and sustainability, and a member of the Fater executive committee, said: "Procter and Gamble believes that diaper recycling is good for our consumers, good for the planet and good for business. It fits with our vision on zero waste."
