Procter and Gamble unveils smart toothbrush
Procter and Gamble (P&G) has announced the introduction of its first connected toothbrush, the Oral-B SmartSeries 7000.
Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona, the device is designed to connect to a user's smartphone via bluetooth and receive data relating to how they are brushing their teeth, leading to an assessment of their oral hygiene.
The toothbrush will then analyse this data and provide a series of suggestions on how the person can improve their technique, something P&G says will work "hand in hand" with dental professionals.
In addition, owners will be able to use their smartphone as a remote control for the device, determining how long they wish to brush for and their preferred mode of doing so.
Scheduled to launch globally in June, the toothbrush is set to retail for around £199 and a companion application will be made available on smartphones utilising both the iOS and Android operating systems.
