Proctor and Gamble Pharmaceuticals extends nano deal
Proctor and Gamble Pharmaceuticals (P&GP) has extended an agreement with the biopharmaceutical company Ablynx regarding drug discovery and development.
Belgium-based Ablynx has said that the new terms of the agreement now include metabolic disease targets and that it will use its nanobody technology to discover and develop possible drugs against P&GP specified targets.
“We are delighted to further our relationship with Ablynx. The existing collaboration has been positive and very productive,” said Dr Douglas W Axelrod, R&D vice president, Discovery and Development Technologies, P&GP.
“With this extension, we anticipate the potential of Nanobodies to develop uniquely effective and efficient therapeutics for a range of applications, including metabolic disease.”
Royalties, milestone payments and research funding will all be provided by P&GP to Ablynx, with pre-clinical and clinical development and commercialisation handled by P&GP.
Ablynx has said that it has so far used its nanobody technology to develop solutions against 20 different disease targets.
