Qiagen expands bioinformatics offering with Biobase content

21st May 2014

Qiagen has announced the addition of content from Biobase, a leading provider of biological databases, to its portfolio of bioinformatics solutions.

The company's Ingenuity Knowledge Base and related bioinformatics offering will be enhanced with the provision of access to the HGMD Human Gene Mutation Database and PGMD PharmacoGenomic Mutation Database.

Clinical researchers will therefore benefit from the most comprehensive, high-quality and up-to-date literature source for gene variant and disease phenotype associations, including expert-curated hereditary variants from HGMD when using Qiagen's Ingenuity Variant Analysis.

Peer Schatz, chief executive officer of Qiagen, said: "With HGMD and other content from Biobase … Qiagen is further extending its competitive advantage as the overall market leader for clinical interpretation of human sequencing data."

Following this move, Biobase will be integrated further into the larger business, taking on the new name Qiagen Wolfenbuttel. The division will be led by Michael Tysiak, the current chief executive officer of Biobase.

This comes after Qiagen expanded its GeneGlobe web portal to include interactive access to extensive genomic content from its Ingenuity Knowledge Base earlier this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801722132-ADNFCR
