Quest Acquires Summa’s Lab Outreach Division

It was announced earlier this week that as part of an all-cash arrangement, Quest Diagnostics will purchase a portion of Summa Health’s lab outreach division.

Physicians and patients will be given testing by Quest assisted by LabCare Plus, Summa Health’s laboratory services division. Summa Health will not relinquish their position as owner of the pathology department, hospital laboratories, and hospital-based outpatient sector.

By all accounts the agreement will improve accessibility of laboratory services to individuals. Patients will gain extensive health plan coverage, access to Quest’s different locations, and reduced expenses for some treatments.

CEO of Summa, Steve Rusckowski, said that the change will “optimize their lab strategies.”

Chief Strategy Officer, Ben Sutton, highlighted the lab sector as a “critical and fast-evolving area of healthcare.”

Summa Health picked Quest as a buyer after a fierce bidding process. The transaction is anticipated to close by the end of this year, dependant on supervisory support.
