Ranbaxy retains former mayor Giuliani

30th September 2008

Ranbaxy Laboratories has announced it is to retain former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani to lead its team seeking to resolve issued raised by regulators.

It said Mr Giuliani and Giuliani Partners would offer the firm advice and look over compliance issues relating to letters from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Import Advisory.

The firm said this decision underlines its commitment to work together with regulators to make sure measures are passed to allow the launch of the relevant products.

“As the FDA stated, all drugs manufactured by Ranbaxy have repeatedly tested safe and effective with no adverse incidents reported,” the company said.

It added it hoped to work for a rapid resolution to any issues raised to allow the firm to continue to supply the global marketplace with its products.

In 2006, Ranbaxy saw sales of $35 million (19.3 million pounds) in the UK, while its branded business experienced a growth of 34 per cent to $7.5 million.
