Researchers develop computer models that can use X-rays to identity COVID-19

UK based Cranfield University researchers have developed computer models that can use X-rays to identity COVID-19. The models use artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision to evaluate chest X-ray imagery for indications of pneumonia and to conclude whether the virus causes it.

The researchers, who implemented deep learning frameworks and conventional machine learning algorithms, used an AI model to foretell results with high accuracy. Despite this success, the researchers believe that they can push the boundaries to further develop new algorithms to produce more stable and sturdy results.

Research led and lecturer in Computational Engineering at Cranfield University, Dr Zeeshan Rana stated: “The research carried out in this pilot project has led to some extremely promising results and we are looking to build on this success rapidly to help in the fight against COVID-19. I am incredibly proud of the work my researchers have carried out, they are a credit to the university and I’m delighted that we are able to support them remotely in carrying out their studies.”
