Risk of COVID-19 infection-causing CVT is up to 10 times greater than the risk of receiving COVID-19 vaccines

An Oxford University study found the risk of COVID-19 infection-causing cerebral venous thrombosis is up to ten times greater than the risk of receiving existing COVID-19 vaccines.

The study compared the number of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) cases diagnosed within 14 days of a patient receiving their COVID-19 diagnosis or initial COVID-19 vaccine.

The figures found were compared to the level of CVT following influenza infection and the baseline level in the general population.
Included in the study were 489,871 people receiving a COVID-19 vaccine and some 513,284 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The study found that in patients with COVID-19, CVT occurred at a rate of thirty-nine in one million patients, which was up to ten times greater than the risk associated with the COVID-19 vaccines currently in use; where CVT occurred in four in one million people who received their mRNA vaccine and five in one million people who received their initial dose of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine.
