Roche announces CE-IVD launch of Cdiff Test

Roche has announced the CE-IVD launch of the cobas Cdiff Test for the detection of Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) in stool specimens. 

The scientific product directly targets the toxin B gene found in toxigenic C. difficile strains that may be present in specimens from symptomatic patients. It is capable of providing accurate information to allow clinicians to make the correct treatment decisions and control further infection in healthcare settings.

"PCR methods for the detection of toxigenic strains of C. difficile have demonstrated sensitive performance" said Dr Frederic Barbut, head of the National Reference Laboratory for Clostridium difficile at Hospital Saint-Antoine France. 

He added broad strain coverage and accurate analytical performance can have a positive impact on identifying C. difficile-associated diarrhea, which will lead to improved patient management.

The test is performed on the cobas 4800 System, which is the only CE-IVD marked system offering enough flexibility to evaluate both sexually transmitted infections and hospital-acquired infections in the same run.
