Roche backs new self-monitoring campaign
Roche is backing a new campaign aimed at giving patients with a long-term warfarin prescription greater choice for managing their condition.
Some 1.2 million people in the UK are on the anticoagulant and of this number, less than two per cent benefit from self-monitoring, despite evidence it can cut the risk of death by nearly two-fifths and halve the risk of strokes.
Therefore, the AntiCoagulation Self-Monitoring Alliance is launching a new campaign with the specific objective of achieving greater access via prescription to INR self-monitoring advancements for patients receiving warfarin therapy.
Roche – which boasts 100 years of pioneering healthcare in the UK – is part of this alliance, which exists to provide support and guidance to patients on oral anticoagulation treatments.
Chief executive and co-founder of AntiCoagulation Europe Eve Knight commented: "We believe that patients should be able to choose whether to self-monitor. This change could lead to improved health outcomes, ultimately saving money for both patients and the NHS."
