Roche intends to launch its rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test in late September

Roche has recently announced its intentions to launch its rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test in September for businesses accepting the CE mark in the EU, while also highlighting its aim to file the test for emergency use authorisation with the US Food and Drug Administration.

In as little as a quarter of an hour, the test can distinguish the SARS-CoV-2 infection in people suspected to carry the virus. Also, it can be used as an initial screening examination for people that have been exposed to high-risk environments or infected patients.

Roche outlines that the test has a sensitivity of ninety-six-point-two per cent and ninety-nine-point-sixty-eight per cent, based on samples from two independent study centres. Once launched, Roche plans to make forty-million tests available per month and plans to double this volume by the end of 2020.

Especially in the upcoming flu season, it is important to know whether a person has SARS-CoV-2 or the flu to ensure the right course of treatment. COVID-19 testing solutions that provide healthcare professionals and patients with a quick answer regarding their infection status are critical to contain the community spread of the COVID-19 virus.”
