Roche’s MRSA test to be used in EU

Roche’s examination to detect methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) can now be sold for clinical use in the European Union (EU).

The LightCycler MRSA Advanced Test has been permitted the CE Mark and will be available for use across the continent to aid the prevention and control of the illness in healthcare settings.

Using a nasal swab specimen from patients suspected to carry the virus, the test is performed on Roche’s LightCycler 2.0 instrument.

Designed for flexible batch sizes, the examination is provided in a ready-to-use format, while ensuring safety, productivity, accuracy and reliable results.

Head of Roche Molecular Diagnostics Daniel O’Day explained it is important to have fast and dependable screening processes for the condition to stay in line with guidelines.

“This new test will aid infection control programs and ultimately result in better patient care,” he commented.

Last week, the pharmaceutical and diagnostics firm completed its acquisition of Genetech.

After the successful conclusion of the tender offer, the latter will now be a wholly-owned member of the former’s group.
