Royal Canin to host nutrition and weight management lecture at BVNA

Royal Canin has announced that it will be hosting a series of nutrition and weight management lectures at the forthcoming British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) conference.

The company will attend the event at Telford International Centre from October 7th to 9th, where it will be educating veterinary nurses on their role in treating animals with energy deficits, a condition that affects 73 percent of hospitalised dogs.

On October 7th, Royal Canin's veterinary marketing executive Sarah Collins will be hosting two lectures on assisted feeding. The first will explore how nutritional support can significantly impact morbidity and mortality, while the second deals with the treatment of anorexic or inappetant patients and cases where an animal is unlikely to feed.

Ms Collins said: "The consequences of malnutrition are very different in healthy cats and dogs compared to ill ones, with ill or traumatised patients catabolising lean body mass when they are not provided with sufficient calories."

Meanwhile, the firm's weight management specialist Shelley Holden will also be delivering the lecture on the difficulties in getting animals to lose weight, a talk designed for nurses already running dedicated clinics in practice.

She will discuss adherence to weight loss plans and the various challenges that owners can face.
