Sandoz highlights continued success of generics strategy at investor meeting
Sandoz has highlighted the ongoing success of its commercial and product development strategy at an investor meeting held by parent company Novartis.
During the Meet Novartis Management event, it was confirmed that Sandoz will be refocusing its business on key geographies and portfolio areas, while streamlining its manufacturing footprint to improve the competitiveness of its global production network.
Currently, the company is a leading player in the differentiated generics market, a position that it wishes to extend. It is also the global leader in biosimilars, with three in-market products – Omnitrope, Binocrit and Zarzio- that are number one in their respective segments.
It has five molecules in phase III development/registration and plans to announce ten further biosimilar filings over the next three years. Its portfolio also includes generic injectable, dermatology, ophthalmic and inhalable therapies.
The strong momentum of the Sandoz business will be a key driver of growth for Novartis, which has also reported good prospects for its Alcon and Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research businesses.
Novartis chief executive officer Joseph Jimenez said: "With strong innovation in each of our businesses, we are well positioned for the future."
