Sandoz to present latest data on Binocrit

Pharmaceutical firm Sandoz has presented its latest data relating to the safety and efficacy of its anaemia treatment product Binocrit.

Binocrit is the first complex biosimilar epoetin alfa product to have been approved for sale in the EU and the findings of various “major” clinical trials were presented at a recent industry event in Stockholm.

Biosimliars are authorised versions of medicines whose patents have expired and Sandoz insists that it has established a “pioneering” position within the sector through the development of products such as Binocrit.

Following the recent presentation, Professor Huub Schellekens from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, said: “The introduction of biosimilar approval in Europe continues to stimulate research from all sides on structure and function of protein medicines. This is a good thing.”

Sandoz maintains that its products are available to 90 per cent of the world’s people and that its medicines are helping to improve and save lives.
