Sanofi and Verily Life Sciences launch diabetes-focused joint venture Onduo
Sanofi and Verily Life Sciences have announced the launch of Onduo, a new joint venture created through the diabetes-focused collaboration between the two firms.
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Onduo business will work to develop comprehensive solutions combining devices, software, medicine and professional care to enable simple and intelligent management of diabetes.
It will leverage Verily's experience in miniaturised electronics, analytics and consumer software development, as well as Sanofi's clinical expertise and experience in bringing innovative diabetes treatments to market.
Joshua Riff has been appointed as chief executive officer of Onduo, joining the new business from Optum, the health services company of UnitedHealth Group, where he served as senior vice-president of prevention and wellbeing.
Peter Guenter, executive vice-president and head of the global diabetes and cardiovascular business unit at Sanofi, said: "The new company Sanofi and Verily invested in will adopt a more service-centric approach and support doctors in their efforts to treat their patients more effectively."
Onduo has already agreed collaborations with California's Sutter Health and the Allegheny Health Network in Pennsylvania to test its platform among healthcare professionals and people with type 2 diabetes in a clinical care setting.
