Sanofi-aventis insulin pen receives Good Design Award

Sanofi-aventis has confirmed that its SoloStar insulin pen has received a 2007 Good Design Award.

The insulin injection pen indicated for use in patients with type one and type two diabetes was recognised by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

Gilles Lhernould, senior vice-president of Industrial Affairs at Sanofi-aventis, expressed the company’s delight in receiving the award and confirmed that the accolade was in recognition of the company’s strong commitment to people with diabetes.

Global head of medical devices at the firm Paul Jansen added that the production of SoloStar was the culmination “of over four years of intensive development”.

“Lantus SoloStar and Apirdra SoloStar? have been designed in dialogue with patients, nurses and doctors and meet the high standards of the industry”.

The firm highlighted a recent survey of Lantus SoloStar which showed that 95 per cent of participants stated they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the insulin injection pen.

A member of the judging panel stated that the insulin pen represented a design “for social good and for humanitarian concerns”.

Earlier this month, Sanofi-aventis and the International Union Against Cancer announced the launch of 25 programmes in 16 countries worldwide designed to fight childhood cancers.
