Sanofi receives EU approval for diabetes drug Toujeo

1st May 2015

Sanofi has announce that the European Commission has approved Toujeo, its next-generation treatment for type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults.

The basal insulin therapy has demonstrated its safety and efficacy in the EDITION clinical trial programme, which compared the performance of the drug to Lantus in a series of phase III trials involving more than 3,500 adults.

During these studies, Toujeo demonstrated strong glycaemic control and a lower level of confirmed cases of hypoglycaemia, with long-lasting effects at any time during the day or night.

The drug has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and is under review by other regulatory authorities around the world.

Pierre Chancel, senior vice-president for global diabetes at Sanofi, said: "Toujeo gives people with diabetes and their physicians a new option to manage their condition and also reinforces our commitment to continue improving the quality of diabetes care."

Toujeo will be made available alongside the Toujeo SoloSTAR, a disposable prefilled pen that contains 450 insulin units.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801786045-ADNFCR
