Sanofi reports positive trial data for diabetes drug Toujeo

16th June 2014

Sanofi has announced positive findings from a pooled analysis of phase III clinical trial data for its new type 2 diabetes drug Toujeo.

In this new study of three trials from the Edition programme, it was revealed that Sanofi's new therapy consistently showed significantly fewer low blood sugar events at any time of day, including at night, compared with an approved and established alternative.

The pooled analysis comprised data from three differing type 2 patient populations, with all three studies meeting their primary endpoint by demonstrating a strong blood sugar control performance.

Many patients experience a sensitive phase when starting insulin and drop the treatment or fail to properly up-titrate when exposed to low blood sugar events. New therapies that can combat this problem are important in the management of the condition.

Pierre Chancel, senior vice-president of the global diabetes division of Sanofi, said: "We continue to be encouraged by the positive phase III results from Edition, which demonstrated the potential of Toujeo to help meet unmet needs of people living with diabetes."

This comes after the firm reported positive data from a new study of its rheumatoid arthritis drug sarilumab last week.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801728331-ADNFCR
