Sanofi reports positive trial data for new combination diabetes therapy
Sanofi has announced the findings of a new clinical trial that demonstrates the benefits of iGlarLixi, its new combination treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Results from the LixiLan-L pivotal phase III trial have shown that the investigational, titratable fixed-ratio combination of insulin glargine and lixisenatide offers greater control of mealtime blood sugar (post-prandial glucose, or PPG) in adult type 2 diabetes patients than insulin glargine alone.
It was also revealed that a significantly higher proportion of participants reached their PPG target after 30 weeks, while the incidence of symptomatic hypoglycemia was similar to that seen with insulin glargine on its own.
iGlarLixi is currently under regulatory review in the US and Europe.
Riccardo Perfetti, head of the global diabetes medical team at Sanofi, said: "With this new analysis, we see further evidence of the role iGlarLixi can serve in helping type 2 diabetes patients meet their PPG targets."
This comes after Sanofi and Verily Life Sciences allied to launch a joint venture called Onduo, which will focus on developing new diabetes management solutions, earlier this month.
