Sanofi’s Lyxumia shows flexibility benefits in new study

9th December 2013

Sanofi has announced positive new clinical trial data from a phase IIIb study of Lyxumia, its treatment for type 2 diabetes.

Results from the 24-week phase IIIb trial met the primary endpoint of showing the drug's non-inferiority in lowering blood sugar levels (HbA1c) when administered either before breakfast or the main meal of the day.

A comparable reduction in body weight was also achieved regardless of the meal before which lixisenatide was administered, while gastrointestinal tolerability and severe hypoglycaemia rates were also shown to be similar.

This indicates that Lyxumia can be an effective diabetes therapy regardless of the time of day at which it is administered.

Professor Bo Ahren of the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University said: "Helping patients reach their HbA1c goal is the main objective of type 2 diabetes treatment. Flexibility in timing of administration is also an important attribute, especially for injectable diabetes therapies."

This comes after Sanofi reported encouraging clinical trial data for its investigational insulin product U300 earlier this month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801670073-ADNFCR
