Schering AG announces strong first quarter sales

19th April 2006

Schering AG has announced that the first quarter of 2006 has seen organic net sales increase by 12 per cent.

The company has said that the strong first quarter growth was based on the performance of two drugs in particular, Betaferon and Yasmin.

Schering said that the two products amounted to 412 million euros of net sales in the first quarter, with growth of 23 per cent and 34 per cent, currency adjusted, for Betaferon and Yasmin respectively.

“The strong net sales increase in the first quarter is the continued reflection of our dynamic growth trend of the last year,” said Dr Hubertus Erlen, chairman of the executive board of Schering AG.

“These excellent figures will propel us towards reaching our set goals for 2006.”

Year on year net sales for the company increased by 16 per cent, Schering has said, rising to a total of 1.406 billion euros. Operating profit for the first quarter is anticipated at 240 million euros, a rise of four per cent.
