Schering Plough announces latest step in global strategy

23rd June 2006

Schering-Plough has revealed its latest expansion as part of its global strategy. The American pharmaceutical manufacturer has spread its operations into Brazil, where it has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary called Schering-Plough Produtos Farmaceuticos.

The company has also restructured an agreement with Mantefarma to continue to manufacture a range of Schering-Plough primary care products. The new Brazilian Schering-Plough company will market Peg-Intron, Temoda, Caelyx, Zetia, Zetsim, Clarityn, Clarinex and Nasonex.

Schering-Plough’s animal health division has already been operating in Brazil successfully for over 50 years, while the pharmaceutical side of the business operates a research and design facility in Sao Paulo.

Fred Hassan, Schering-Plough’s chairman and chief executive officer, remarked: “The actions announced today are part of Schering-Plough’s long-term global geographic expansion strategy.”

“Investing in the Latin America region and other emerging markets represents another step in our journey to transform Schering-Plough into a global, high-performance health care company,” he added.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Schering-Plough was voted the UK’s 39th best company to work for. Previously AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly have been featured in the Great Place to Work Institute’s top-50, according to Pharmafocus.

Its UK headquarters are in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.
