Schering Plough gets new GM

Schering Plough has announced the appointment of a new candidate as general manager for its Shanghai operations. Trevor Juniper will now report to Rodney Unsworth, group vice-president of the Asia-Pacific region and will be responsible for pharmaceutical business in China.

Schering Plough, which concentrates its energies on four key areas, is a global research-based pharmaceutical with operations conducted in the UK, the Middle East, Asia and the rest of Europe.

China has now been isolated as a “key country” in the company’s plans for geographic expansion where it has registered “rapid sales growth”. Recent sales figures suggest the country reached rapid growth in the second quarter of the year, doubling figures from a year ago.

Commenting on the new appointment, Schering Plough states: “Having previously served in country, regional and global positions, Juniper brings a record of experience in both the pharmaceutical and consumer segments.

“He joined Schering-Plough in 2003 in Australia as director, primary care. Before coming to Schering-Plough, Juniper held marketing positions of increasing responsibility in Canada with General Mills, Marion Merrell Dow and Boehringer Ingelheim, and in Australia with the former Pharmacia Corporation.”

The appointment follows the announcement that the role of vice president of global project management at the company would be given to Michael Perelman. He acquired the role in May this year and is leading projects relating to the cardiovascular area’s thrombin receptor antagonist programme – which aims to improve treatment for arterial thrombosis.
