Schering Plough intensifies focus on Europe

8th March 2006

Schering-Plough has restructured its operations to help intensify its business focus in Europe.

The company has split its EU, Canada, Middle East and Africa (EUCAN) concerns into two. The EUCAN I region will include the United Kingdom, Canada, Scandinavia, Italy, France, Germany and Spain, while Schering-Plough’s EUCAN II organisation will cover the rest of the old region.

It said that the changes would allow the company to focus better on the “the important and increasingly complex pharmaceutical marketplaces” on the three continents.

Francesco Granata, former president of Schering-Plough’s operations in the Benelux area, will act as group vice-president of EUCAN I. The job of vice-president of EUCAN II will be handed to Bruno Strigini, former president of international operations at UCB-CellTech.

In addition, the company’s Latin American/Asia-Pacific corporate organisation will be split up. Formerly one single region, management will now organise business in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions separately.

Fred Hassan, CEO of Schering-Plough, said the restructuring would be positive for the company: “These changes allow us to focus even more effectively on the needs of our customers in different markets, to better manage and drive growth and to build
a competitive edge through innovation, speed and flexibility.”
