Schering-Plough: Pet owners can save lives in Africa

Schering-Plough Animal Health has announced the details of a new initiative founded by a UK doctor through which pet owners can help save lives in Africa.

Dog and cat lovers who get their animal vaccinated between now and the end of the year are being invited to double the impact of their visit to the vet via the Afya Serengeti project.

This programme vaccinates domestic dogs in Tanzania, which are responsible for more than eight out of ten cases of the disease.

For every cat or dog vaccinated with a dose of Continuum, another dose will be given to pets in Africa through.

Dr Sarah Cleaveland from the Centre of Tropical Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, said: “We are immensely proud of the success of our initiative in Tanzania.

“This is a campaign that has let people get on with their everyday lives by helping to eradicate one of the everyday threats.”

She added this programme is about making life safer every day for people in the Serengeti, especially children.

Earlier this month, Schering-Plough announced the successful sale of a number of its animal health products to Pfizer as required by European competition law following its purchase of Organon BioSciences.
